Head and neck cancer – Risk factors and how to deal with them

Head and neck cancers are a group of cancers that occur in the salivary glands, pharynx, nasal cavity, tongue, etc. They usually begin in either the squamous cells or in the salivary glands (rather uncommon). This treatment can cause side effects such as decreased appetite, rashes, diarrhea, fever, shortness of breath, etc. KEYTRUDA® can also cause your immune system to attack normal organs and tissues, causing serious illnesses and even death. If you experience any trouble or symptoms related to different organs, you must consult your doctor immediately.

How common is head and neck cancer?

Head and neck cancers are more common in men than in women and make up to 4% of all the cancers in the country. People over the age of 50 are more likely to be diagnosed with this type of cancer.

  • Smoking cigarettes

    Several head and neck cancers can be caused by a regular intake of alcohol. Abstaining from alcohol can enhance your overall health as well as lower your risk of several diseases.
  • HPV prevention
    Several oral cancers can have a connection with an HPV infection. To prevent it, ensure you get your vaccination on time.
  • The sun
    Staying out in the sun for long amounts of time can increase your risk of cancer. When you do go out, make sure to use an adequate amount of sunscreen and sunglasses that will protect your eyes from UV rays.
  • Not eating healthy
    Eating unhealthy food can cause you to fall sick often or develop serious illnesses. Eat a balanced diet that includes vegetables, fruits, proteins, vitamins, etc., for a healthier life.
